ANALYSIS

This photo shoot was a simple portraiture shoot, taken indoors. I used a Nikon camera to take the photographs and no other equipment/props. On a few of the photographs I attempted to incorporate the rule of thirds. However, I think this is quite difficult to do when capturing portrait photographs. I believe the photographs were still successful though as they displayed the focus very clearly.I used the flash when taking the majority of the photographs because I thought it looked much clearer after experimenting without the flash; it also helped me achieve a very defined photograph. The flash also helped to get the lighting of the photograph just right and so it did not look underexposed. The photo shoot itself was not very experimental. However, I believe that the edits I have shown below display experimentation.

Above, I have presented my final two experiments. To begin, I decided on the photographs of which I believed to be the most successful. I then printed my chosen photographs upon glossy photo paper. After printing, I burnt into the photographs using a lighter. I took inspiration form the artist, Lucas Simões, of who I have previously researched. I was immediately interested in Simões’ unusual work, as I believed it looked simple to achieve yet highly effective; and so I decided to create burnt photographs myself. I burned the pair of photographs I had decided on and then scanned them into the computer. I then edited the curves of the photographs, just slightly, as I did not believe they required much editing as with help from the flash, I achieved very clear photographs. The only problem was that I believe the scanner reduced the quality of the images, hence why I decided to edit the photographs on Photoshop once scanned.
