ANALYSIS
This asymmetrical portrait photo shoot was inspired by Saul Steinberg, a cartoonist whose work I found highly interesting. I instantly wanted to use inspiration of which I received from Steinberg to use within this photo shoot, and so I did. I began this photo shoot by drawing a simple face upon a brown paper bag and placing it upon people’s heads. Unlike Steinberg, I did not put much detail into the sketch upon the bags, of which I could have done to improve my experimentation. However, I do not necessarily believe that the sketches upon the bags had to be very detailed as I think the photographs still manage to portray the theme of disguise with or without a detailed sketch upon the bags.
After taking the photographs and creating the contact sheets of my photo shoot, I decided on several photographs of which I believe to be the most successful, I then edited them to enhance the photographs. However, I attempted to just slightly edit the photographs, as I did not want to make the photographs look too overpowering.

I believe the four photographs above were the most successful photographs taken within my photo shoot, all of which I have decided to analyse as a whole as my editing techniques for each photograph chosen was very similar. I believe the photographs turned out very crisp and clear and showed every fine detail within the photograph. I began to edit each of the photographs firstly by slightly altering the curves of the photograph, before applying a black and white filter. I finished editing by slightly altering the curves a little more to enhance the black and white tones within the filter and I am quite pleased with the results as I believe each of the photographs look bold and portray quite a negative mood, due to my use of colour, of which was my aim. I believe my use of colour links to the negative feelings Steinberg (of who inspired this photo shoot) had towards the topic of disguise and so this made my photo shoot more successful as my initial idea behind the photo shoot was to effectively portray this mood. I used a simple indoor location to carry out this photo shoot, as I did not believe the background would play any significant part within the photographs and may also take away the attention from the main subject. I attempted to use the rule of thirds in a few of my photograph because I think this added to the aesthetic of the photographs. The engagement with my subject matter varied throughout my photo shoot as some photographs were extreme close ups, whereas some had quite a long depth of field.
